TIME FOR SOME QUESTIONS

Shown in happier times paying homage to his Leafs, the Poolmeister is lamenting the
loss of the NHL.
So this is it. The 2004/05 NFL season is over. In years past, this meant that the
members of the one and only Steve Crosby NFL Football Pool would not communicate with one another for 7 months. That seems
like a long time, especially given the lack of sports fulfillment in the average household this year with the death of hockey.
For many, including the Poolmeister, the NFL is still second fiddle to Canada's national pastime, and even though the NFL
has been the basis for one terrific pool over the past few years, there is still a somewhat hollow feeling...a hole in our
lives...when the season comes to a close. This then begs a few questions of the members of the Steve Crosby NFL Football Pool
(TM). Please read on.
1) Can we (and SHOULD WE) sustain the website in the offseason? Some current ideas
for this range from running contests in the other seasonal sports to democratically deciding rule changes, additions, subtractions,
etc. The "Tell Us How You Really Feel" page has been a pleasant surprise, with most poolies contributing at one time or another.
We are assuming that that page now has a life of its own and will continue whether the website is updated or not.
2) Will each of you be back in the Big Pool next year? I, for one, do not want to
find out in August that you are not going to play. This takes away any opportunity to fill our quota with an appropriate number
of players. This was a good mix this year, and it would be great to have some continuity in the pool.
3) Do we have any room for expansion? Certainly there is at least one person out there
that I know of that would love to be allowed into the SCNFLFP. Perhaps we should have a maximum? It is, after all, more time
consuming to keep proper stats the more players we have.
These are just a few of the questions on the mind of the Webmeister these days. The
input level was definitely higher in the pool this year, which made it much more interesting than in previous years. This
whole thing kind of stands or falls on the participation level of you stumps. One thing will change shortly, and that is that
when you open up the HOME page, you will see right away at the top which pages, if any, have been updated, and when. This
should help streamline the time of your visits.
Right now there are basically two ways to have input, the best being to email either
the Poolmeister (crozzbie@aol.com) or the Webmeister (pcroz4@yahoo.com) directly, the other being to comment on the "Tell Us How You Really Feel" page. Either way, before we embark on things like
non-football contests and rule examinations, we should get some answers to the above questions. As usual, we are grateful
anytime any one of you says "boo".

ANYONE NOTICE THE PRO BOWL?
In my humble opinion, there is almost nothing quite so anti-climactic as a league playing
their All-Star game after their championship game. The NFL is the only one of the 4 major sports that does this. They call
it the Pro Bowl, and it is basically an excuse to give a bunch of the year's over-achievers a nice little holiday in the sand
and surf of Hawaii. In case you haven't figured it out yet, I am not a big fan of the Pro Bowl. In the first place, how do
you play a "friendly" game of football, where the main objective all year long is essentially to hurt people...break them
in half if you can. They might as well play two-hand touch for all the effectiveness of giving us the impression it is a real
contest.
In this year's multi-million dollar yawner, the AFC beat the NFC 38-27, thanks mostly to
Peyton Manning not having to play against the Patriots. That's right Woodsie, you read correctly. Your "man"ning set all kinds
of offensive records this year, but in the AFC Championship game, was just plain offensive. Back to a game that doesn't matter,
and, oh look at this, MVP. YAAAAAWWWWWWWWN!

Manning and his Colts teammates like playing
with the Patriots moreso than against them.
Fortunately, I was spared the boredom of watching this game because I was taking the K-Dogger
back to Kenora that night. I would definitely be interested in hearing from the SCNFLFP stumps on this one. Do you think there
even SHOULD be an NFL All-Star game? If so, could it not be done at a different time? Personally, I would like to see the
Super Bowl champs go up against an All-Star team made up of players from the rest of the league, much the way they used to
do it in the NHL decades ago.
